How We Run a Job: From File to Dispatch
File Intake
When an order comes in, the first step is file checking. Our automated quoting system runs a geometry validation pass on every uploaded STL: it checks for non-manifold edges, verifies the model fits within our build volume, flags overhangs that will require support material, and calculates approximate print time and filament usage.
Most files clear this automatically and receive an instant quote. Files that fall outside the automatic parameters — models larger than the build volume, very high triangle counts, or estimated print times above 24 hours — go to manual review. Manual review typically takes one working day, sometimes faster. We will contact you with a price and any notes about the file before the job runs.
Material and Colour
Once an order is confirmed, material and colour selection is locked. We run a large swatch library across PLA in standard and premium finishes, PETG for functional parts, and ABS/ASA for engineering applications. Colour matching is done by filament lot, not by eye — if you have a specific RAL or Pantone reference, include it in your order notes and we will match as closely as our stock allows.
For multi-colour jobs using the AMS, colour assignments are confirmed before the job is queued. If there is any ambiguity about which colour applies to which part of the model, we will query before running.
Scheduling on the Farm
Jobs are queued by order date and complexity. Single-material single-colour parts move through quickly; multi-colour jobs, large builds, and batches with tight tolerances are scheduled with more margin. Our standard turnaround is two to five working days from order confirmation. For large-volume orders or school runs with a specific delivery requirement, contact us before ordering to confirm availability.
The farm runs continuously. Print jobs are distributed across machines based on build size, material loaded, and queue position. A job does not start until the machine is confirmed ready, the material is loaded and dry, and the bed has completed its auto-level cycle.
Quality Checking
Every part is visually inspected before packing. We check for: layer separation or delamination, surface defects from support removal, dimensional accuracy on critical features, and colour consistency across a batch.
For large batches — the school runs of several hundred personalised items that we handle regularly — inspection is done by sampling and full-batch visual review. Parts that fail inspection are reprinted before the order ships. We do not ship parts with visible quality defects and attribute the reprint cost to ourselves, not the customer.
Packing and Dispatch
Standard packing is plain cardboard with appropriate void fill for part protection. We do not include branded inserts unless requested. For dropshipping accounts that require white-label fulfilment — no Yorkshire3D branding, customer's own packing slip — this is available on request and handled at the account level.
Dispatch is via tracked courier. You will receive a tracking number when the order ships. For bulk orders with a specific delivery date requirement, confirm the requirement at order placement rather than afterwards.
